I.E, if you encounter a 'Challenging' skills check (difficulty 12) you need to. 6 This guide and walkthrough for Disco Elysium is a compendium of knowledge about this unusual production. Active skill checks let you roll a dice, while passive skill checks are simpler - the relevant skill has to be at least as high as the skill check difficulty -6. My Harry was just never that connected to those around him, more concerned with being the smartest man in the room, which was a huge contrast to my first play through where Harry, as fucked up as he was, couldn’t help but be endearing to those around him. Disco Elysium has tiered skill check difficulties - every check requires you to reach a certain number. Tbh, while my second run had some amazing deviations from the first, primarily saving Titus and Ruby but landing Kim in hospital and recruiting Cuno (which was an unexpectedly awesome piece of character development), I was a little disappointed. It also breathes life into the inanimate, granting you visions of a sentient necktie, a hanged corpse, and other objects. ![]() It offers valuable hunches via gut reactions. My second build just didn’t seem to be supported that much by the game - you can only make Harry so “cool” and clever and your ability to solve the case efficiently is always ultimately hamstrung by the fact that there’s no way to know it was The Deserter, until you do. Inland Empire The necktie is alive Inland Empire untethers the imagination, opening the world to the surreal and supernatural. My biggest mistake with both runs was the reluctance to align strongly with any political ideology. I played him like this Sherlock Holmes type character, detached from his past self but still interested in who he used to be, very “cool” and measured, which meant he was mostly a Boring Cop with a penchant for creativity, making him an Art Cop as well. My second build I tried to be more specific - I did a “World’s Greatest Detective” run with big emphasis on Visual Calculus (which is surprisingly a mostly pointless skill). Otherwise it would have been a perfect run. Super, super happy with my first run, except for missing a 97% skill check to talk with the Phasmid. First play through was still easily my favorite and I have a feeling that nothing matches that first time for most people, as I didn’t approach it with any specific build in mind but just let Harry develop organically, which ended up being an Apocalyptic Superstar Cop who was hopelessly dependent on all the drugs, a totally fucked up maverick who weirded everyone out but got incredible results. iirc and all that.I just finished my second play through and had some interesting experiences with both. Not that there's anything wrong with those skills, but as they rarely disagreed, they ended up not really saying as much. A 1/4/5/2 playthrough has ended up probably being my second-most memorable, as I find I'm getting more banter between the skills themselves than I did on the 4/4/2/2 build I did as my first run, where Empathy, Drama, Conceptualization, and Inland Empire seemed like they kind of drowned everyone else out. You end up with a lot of overlap in terms of knowledge/social options and strength/finesse options. What I'd actually advise against, dialogue-wise, is an Intellect/Psyche or Physique/Motorics build. ![]() Youre also good with conceptualizing stuff and visual calculus. It reveals a lot about the things that we experience but in a matter of fact kind of wa which reads different that with other skills like shiver or the cop one (forgot the name), so you piece together stuff more easily. Skills like Endurance, Pain Threshold, Electrochemistry, Shivers, Hand-Eye Coordination, Savoir-Faire, and Interfacing don't really get much to say unless they're fairly high. With the intellect playthrough, the encyclopedia skill is fun. Maybe not as your first or only playthrough, but any build can work and unlock its share of passive checks and thus different dialogue. ![]()
